Scuba Diving in Dubai

Scuba Diving in Dubai

Beneath the still waters of the Persian Gulf waits an underwater world. Thousands of species of fish and coral lie beneath the surface. The reefs off the coast of Dubai are quite beautiful, scuba diving in Dubai is accessible and affordable, it’s a great way to spend a day, or maybe more. Not limited to marine life, scuba diving in Dubai will also give you a chance to explore some of the ancient shipwrecks along the coastline of Dubai.

Dubai’s hot climate plays out like an eternal summer for lovers of water sports. From May through to October you won’t need a wet suit at all, for the rest of the year a 3mm suit will do just fine. Of course, you will be able to hire these on the day of your expedition. On average the water temperature is a very comfortable 25 degrees Celsius, peaking at 34 degrees during July.

As a traveller a good way to experience scuba diving is to arrange a day trip, you can usually organise this through your Hotel in Dubai. If you only have one day, the best scuba diving in Dubai can be found in the Gulf of Oman, make sure you don’t miss it. Most tour operators will offer an all inclusive price, covering your transport, accommodation, equipment and any training before the dive. The trip there will allow you to take in the coast. On a full day of diving expect to see a good deal of marine life as well as explore a shipwreck or two. You should be able to take a day trip most days of the week.

Once you get underwater, prepare yourself to encounter all sorts of marine life. Turtles are not an uncommon site; you may also encounter eels, octopus, a variety of fish, sting rays and even hammerhead and reef sharks.

If you are a more experienced diver, you may wish to venture a little further a field to Al Fujairah, located on the east coast of the UAE. Fujairah is a (comparatively) small town with some excellent diving sites. You can do a day trip from Dubai, or opt for a two day trip for more opportunity for dives. It’s a good idea to book an east coast trip before you leave home, most Scuba Diving centres in Dubai will only run one or two trips a week.
